I am going to say this as gently as possible….If you didn’t watch Black Girls Rock last night on BET I am going to need your Black girl card back. This was an experience like none other! How can you go wrong when you start a show off with Sheila E?!?! I was live tweeting during the entire show and commented that there is something special when you see the First Lady of the United States singing along with Sheila E! LOL!
I salute you Beverly Bonds because you have done something that the “big” name shows have yet to master. You successfully celebrated women! You have put young girls in the room with their mothers and grandmothers and embraced the past, present, and future.
“No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are beautiful,” First Lady Michelle Obama said. “I am so proud of you. My husband, your president, is so proud of you. We have so much hope and dreams for you,” she told the crowd full of black women and girls.
How many shows celebrate the next generation of young women making a difference AKA (M.A.D. girls)? Ummm…. (Think about it) the educators with the entertainers all in one room?
I must be honest…I spent much of the show in tears because I am proud of my Black Sisters! All of the speeches from the celebrants moved me beyond words even as I write this. Black Girls Rock! 2015 changed me…. If you hang around would find out you’ll find it out…it was inspired by Ms. Tyson “I opted to use my career as my platform.” ~Cicely Tyson .Black Girls Rock 2015
