You might as well be sleeping under a rock if you haven’t heard of Lupita Nyong’o. The recent Oscar winner has clearly made a name for herself not just because of her talent but also because of her undeniable grace, style, and beauty. I have been a fan of Ms. Nyong’o since I first came across here work, but as a educated woman of color with a background in fashion and media I must say I tip my hat to this woman for addressing an issue that is still very real….the image of “beauty” The below video is from her speech at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon . I invite you to watch it and be moved…I was….and will continue to be.
A little over a week ago this blog celebrated it’s blog anniversary (August 29th). It is amazing how quickly a year can go by. I am grateful beyond words for all of the wonderful opportunities that have come my way in the last twelve months. To truly reflect I decided to step away from writing, media, blogging for a bit to make sure that I am staying true to my mission and vision for A Stylish Hue.
My hope in creating A Stylish Hue was to celebrate Healthy Unique Diverse Empowering images of women of color in a way that I could combine by background in fashion and media. Over the past year I have had the unique honor of connecting with other bloggers, fashion designers, fitness organization, book publishing companies, and PR companies. Not to mention that I have been honored with blogging awards. Wow! I really just wanted to showcase positive images of women of color and offer resources that would help them to be empowered to thrive and live their best life. With each day that passes I am filled with gratitude beyond words to each and everyone of hue for joining me on this journey.
Having a degree in fashion combined with a diverse fashion background I often get style conscious men asking how they can look their best without loosing their self expression, breaking the bank ,and catching a woman’s eye all at the same time.
Expressing yourself while remaining professional can be a unique challenge. One place that I like to direct stylish gentleman to is Express Men. Most of their locations share space or are in close proximity to Express Women, which means he can take his favorite fashionista with him and have fun while getting fashionable.
