Welcome Back to A Stylish Hue!

Over the last few months I have been planning some really neat things for this blog (at least I think so). In the near future you will see more lifestyle post created with hue in mind. I also have a great little surprise planned for my fashionistas. Are you ready? Let’s get started in 3…2….1…GO!

More post for HUE!

I am back after taking a small break from blogging. Over the last few months I’ve had A LOT going on (in a good way) that I feel will help me grow this blog in ways that I couldn’t imagined just a few years ago. Yes, I have been  M.I.A. in blogging land, but I have been front and center in the world of social media. My time in the social media universe has opened the flood gates in regards to growing my media voice. I have always wanted this blog to be a celebration of  black women, their style, beauty, and life. In the last few months so many things have happened in world in the black community that reminds me that we still need diversity in training in the world and more now than ever I feel that as a black woman I need to be apart of a movement that showcases positive images of black women. So I will be adding to this blog in great ways.  Mondays with now focus on the image of black women in the media. You may ask why?….uummm because people still think that it is okay to talk about a black woman’s hair

as if she is less than a human….No it wasn’t funny (not even a little bit)- I am a naturalista, and I have never ever come close to using weed….not cool to suggest such things. Also, while while watching the red carpet during award season I saw very few women on color. I mean come on…how many television networks do we have? And no station can find a woman of color with a fashion degree and media experience?  But it is more than fashion or red carpets. Let’s talk about other forms of media….film, television, print, and other forms of media. Why aren’t we seeing more women (and men) of color? I maybe only person but, I will use my voice and this platform to share what main stream media is not. I will speak out, speak up, and speak of positive things that black women are doing.SpeakOut-logo2-darker

….and don’t even get me started on the Oklahoma University issue because I can go on and on about that…so I have something too.

There are many other issues that I will address in later blog post but for now I will be adding a media and educational/lifestyle to this blog in addition to the True Beauty Tuesday, Web Window Shopping post.

With love from me to Hue,

Make your list & check Instagram twice

It’s the last shopping Saturday before Christmas and while some of you may be all done with your holiday shopping some have yet to get started. Before you fight the mall traffic check your list and check instagram twice. Several small business have an are on istagram. One  of added benefits of shopping with a small business is the service. While it’s getting down to the wire for shipping items some companies maybe offering special deal for purchasing with them. One huge difference is the attention to detail and communication that you will get when dealing with a small business. So make your your holiday shopping list and check it twice you maybe able to miss the long lines.

Below is a list of small business IGers that we featured on instagram on Black Friday…and hey if can’t get want you want before Christmas you can always buys something great for yourself to start of the New Year!

Model Hue Monday

Last year International supermodels Iman and Naomi Campbell called for an end to racism on the runway.

And while the number of diverse models increased on the runway slightly fashion week this year the industry still has a long way to go.

The lack of diversity has lead me to ponder how could we as a society change this? As a fashion merchandising graduate who holds an advance degree in media I’ve wondered if the industry wants to change on its own? Or if we as consumers of both fashion and media have to be the agents of change? Where and how to we start?  I believe that it starts with us….so

True Beauty Tuesday: Iwilla Remedy

Last week I made the first ever combo post. Combining True Beauty Tuesday (TrueBeautyTuesday) and Web Window Shopping Wednesday (#WebWindowShoppingWednesday) called True Beauty Window shopping featuring Iwilla Remedy.

As mentioned in my last post the ladies (the owners) where wonderful enough to send me several samples to review for my post. I can’t say enough how wonderful the items are….so great in fact it earned them two post because well one was just not enough.

In my first post I featured their gluten-free I love my armpit deodorant (which I am still using by the way), but I also wanted to highlight a few of the other items that I received and share with you my “Must have item”

Herbal Insect Repellent:

Let me just say I don’t think that I have ever come across a repellent with such a wonderful scent….when I shared it with others they questioned if it was repellent because it had such a nice smell.

My Skin Glows Cream:

I shared this product with both men and women and received the same response…..  “Ummmm where did you get this….I want some!” I think that says enough.

Speckled Blood Orange Natural Lip Balm:

I share this product with someone who has loves to be outside in the Summer and likes to keep her skin and lips hydrated without be greasy (she really hates greasy stuff). She loved the coverage of the product and said that her lips felt really good.

My Must have item:

My Must have item is the I Love My Armpits Natural Deodorant the travel size version. As a person who has spent a lot of time on the road traveling for work I can’t explain to you have I love this product. Natural, travel-size, deodorant and a reasonable price…simply priceless. My advice to you is if you are going to be traveling anywhere soon this is the item to pick up.

Happy #TrueBeautyTuesday!

True Beauty -Web Window Shopping: Iwilla Remedy

What happens when True Beauty Tuesday and Web Window Shopping Wednesday meet? Well a whole new feature of course…True beauty Window Shopping. A new two part feature for products that are so outstanding that they deserve to be featured twice.

I had planned to make this post yesterday for True Beauty Tuesday and then I thought about the wonderful products that I had the pleasure of reviewing and instantly thought these products could also be featured on Web Window Shopping Wednesday. In the ever changing internet based world we now do more shopping online than ever before and these a some great product that you may not find on your local shelves, but they are products that you need to know about.

Let’s be honest it can be difficult to purchase beauty products online for obvious reasons….you can’t feel the texture or connect with the scent. That’s why I am excited to introduce you to the Brooklyn, NY based Iwilla Remedy. The company was gracious enough to send me several products to review and I couldn’t be happier

Today’s Web Window Shopping Wednesday shopping feature is the Baby Powder scented I Love My Armpits™ deodorant.

While opening this product I had that OMG! moment…you know when stumble across a product that offers a scent of sheer bliss. What makes this product even more amazing to me is that this product (along with of of the Iwilla Remedy products) are created with wellness in mind. Since going gluten-free almost four years ago I have a had a hard time finding products that are g-free so  I am always excited to find beauty products that consider the allergy needs of consumers.  I have been reviewing the these products two weeks now, and I am excited that the ladies of Iwilla Remedy reached out to me because I love this Armpits and this product (pun intended)

Do you want to learn more about the other great products I had the chance to review from Iwilla Remedy, the item I picked as my must have item, and reactions from my testing team? Then be sure to join me here on Tuesday for #TrueBeautyTuesday part two feature.

Embracing HUE

Today is a celebration of each and every one of you! This Hue & Me Monday I encourage to show the world you are beautiful enough, stylish enough, simply put enough! Project Embrace has created the #IAMENOUGHDAY campaign to challenge the stereotypes of what is considered beautiful hair.

Declaring March 31st as “I AM ENOUGH DAY” the campaign encourages women to ditch the weaves and embrace their natural hair.

I originally came across Project Embrace on instagram and instantly liked the campaign. Two years ago I explored the stereotypes surrounding natural hair in the “corporate world” and the role the media plays  for my graduate school thesis…so naturally, I feel a connection to a project that supports the celebration of diversity.

Per their Facebook Project Embrace plans to encourage the UK government to regulate the of sales of chemical relaxers by placing age restrictions (which I personally love)

To learn more about the mission of Project Embrace visit their website or view their recent interview on Black Visions Television.

The work that Project Embrace is doing is truly a celebration of Hue and me by encouraging each of us to embrace our beauty.

Be sure to join the celebration #IAMENOUGHDAY
