Web Window Shopping: Natural Girls United

Thanksgiving is the green light for the Christmas/holiday shopping season to begin. As most people make their list and check it twice in hopes of finding that great holiday gift for the female in their life I would like to offer some friendly advice on a perfect gift that celebrates that HUE female in your life. One that truly gets to the heart of being a black girl/ woman. Let me introduce you to Natural Hair United. It is doll collection like none other.

I came across Natural Girls United last year and I have been hitting to everyone that I know that if they wanted to get me a gift that I will love and display with pride all year long then they need to look no further than these amazing creations. I am a firm supporter of young girls (and boys) have toys that represent them. I am blessed that my Mom & Dad made it a point to provide me with dolls that looked like me. At it is for this reason I am madly in love with the dolls that Natural Girls United create. It is more than just a doll in my eyes. It is a way for young girls to see and understand that beauty comes in all shades, sizes and hair textures. These dolls make me want to cry and smile all at the same time because they offer a true celebration of black beauty.

Melanin Media Monday: Marley Mag

I started Melanin Media Mondays because I wanted to showcase all the positive things that black girls and women are doing that often don’t make it to the “mainstream” media. The great thing about the internet and social media is that we no longer have to wait for “mainstream” to tell us what is beautiful, talented, or truly newsworthy.

Today’s feature is a young woman that just makes my heart heart happy beyond words. Her name is Marley Dias and I think that she is amazing.

She has to be one of the coolest young ladies going. She is just the type of black princess that the world needs to see. If you haven’t heard of Marley let me give you a quick peek at this amazing wonder. For starters she the mind behind the #1000BlackGirlsBook campaign. A wonderful campaign that donates books to libraries and schools that showcase black girls as the main character. The little princess also has her own magazine called Marley Mag in partnership with Elle magazine.  She is what I personally think of when I hear Black Girl Magic.

Way to go Marley! You have inspired this big girl 🙂

True Beauty Tuesday:Khoudia Diop

When I originally started True Beauty Tuesday a few years back I wanted to to be more that just beauty products (there is nothing wrong with that), but like I have always said my goal is to celebrate, educate, and empower HUE to HUE.

There are times in your life when you come across a beauty so amazing to the eye that you just wan to cry. It happened for me when I say Khoudia Diop. Never in my life have I seen a woman hold such beauty. NEVER. Her melanin skin makes me value my skin tone even more than ever and while I am sure she has experienced her fair share of rude people I want to take this moment to send nothing but love to her.Screen Shot 2016-10-05 at 4.33.45 PM.png
