Media Monday: Thank You Gwen Ifill

Gwen Ifill

I don’t think that there are words to express all that Gwen Ifill has done for media. Her class, talent, and professionalism set the standard in media. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Ifill, but I felt like I knew her. Over the last few days I have watched media professionals from several networks struggle with saying “Goodbye” to a living legend. In a world of reality stars seeking instant fame and glory for doing nothing Ms. Ifill reminded us daily what can happen when a gloriously, humble, and talented woman stepped in front of the camera….she can change the world for the better.

Rest in Glory Ms. Ifill. There will never be another like you. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. This little girl will be forever inspired.

13th by Ava DuVernay

Instead of telling you what I think I will just present the powerful trailer from Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th.

The title of Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American. (above text taken from the 13th Official Trailer.)

In expanding A Stylish Hue into a lifestyle blog has been a labor of love for me. I believe seeing positive diverse images of black women are needed more now than ever with that being said I will be exploring and sharing images of black women in the media in various forms a little thing I like to call Melanin Media Monday. I want to start the week off showcasing black women in a powerful diverse ways. While working on ideas I came across Solange’s Cranes in the Sky this morning and I must tell you I am love beyond words with this song. The imagery in the video (see below) is amazing.
